of New Bedford, Massachusetts
Position: Crew
Age: 35

Manuel Moniz was born in New Bedford. His mother, Mrs. Louisa Moniz, a 64-year-old amputee, lived with her daughter at 92 Earle Street. Mr. Moniz attended Normandin Junior High School and was employed for many years as a counterman in the Atlantic Restaurant. He had been fishing for four years. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church. He was survived by his twelve-year-old daughter Barbara; two brothers, Joseph and Anthony; and two sisters.

The dragger Four Sisters was returning to New Bedford with a hold full of scallops when she was lost in a sudden storm on April 7 or 8 east of Nantucket. All ten men on board were lost, and an extensive Coast Guard search failed to find any trace of the ship or the crew. Twelve children were left fatherless.

The William Landry was lost in the same storm.
